2012 NGASD Conference

19-21 April 2012

The Lodge at Deadwood

We hope you all attend the 2012 National Guard Association of South Dakota’s Officer Conference. This year’s conference will be hosted by the 881st Troop Command at the Lodge at Deadwood Gaming Resort. This beautiful facility will be the perfect location for business and pleasure for officers and families alike.  Check out the resort online at www.deadwoodlodge.com.

The conference starts of Thursday night at the hospitality room with time for friends and fellowship. Come early and re-connect with old friends and new colleagues.

Before the first business session Friday morning, there will be a 5K run on the Mickelson Trail. Prizes will be awarded in various categories. After the morning business, you can choose a variety of events throughout the area. Choose from golf at Boulder Canyon Country Club near Sturgis, a shooting contest at CorBon Law Enforcement Training Center in Sturgis, or a surface tour of the Sanford Lab.

Boulder Canyon Country Club offers nine exciting holes nestled in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. At nearly 6550 yards this par 72 golf course offers a challenge to both low and high handicap golfers. The clubhouse, which offers a full menu of fine food, beverages and choice of fresh home-made desserts is open daily. Golfers will pay for their round at the golf course.

The same American family that manufactures COR®BON Ammunition has built a new, state of the art, firearms training center in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

The COR®BON Law Enforcement Training Center (CLETC) is nestled on private property within the Sturgis Community, just minutes away from I-90, lodging, and restaurants. CLETC's classrooms and ranges are state of the art, with modern technical equipment.  They can provide the following: 25 yard 20 position turning target range, 50 yard 90 Degree metal target range, 300 yard Precision Rifle Range, one position manual clay pigeon launcher, all metal targets that are available, and all paper targets and backers. We will be putting together a challenging but fun contest that will test your skills in shooting your own firearm or from a number of range provided firearms.

To wrap up the evening and stay in tempo with the theme “Guards Got Talent”, there will be a talent show on Friday night (entry forms at the bottom of this document). Each unit, battalion and above, will be required to submit and entry for the event. Prizes will be awarded for the best performance. There will also be a contest for individuals. If there is a need, we can arrange to have a sound system to provide background music or a projector.

After the second business session on Saturday morning, the events for the day will be Texas Hold’em, a slot tournament, an ATV ride and a 20K mountain bike ride on the Mickelson trail.

Texas Hold’em will be available at the Lodge for 40 participants and if all seats are filled it is guaranteed to pay out $500.

The slot tournament will also be held at the Lodge and can accommodate 108 participants. Payouts will be posted prior to the event. The event will start at approximately 1430. All of the events (with exception to golf) have a minimal fee included for transportation to and from the location.

If you are looking for a true rush, ATV rides along the trails in the Deadwood area. Rentals will be available for a cost of $100 for a half day. Please let us know if you have interest in cruising through the hills and we can get you all hooked up!

Finally, we will end the conference with a banquet on Saturday night. Prizes will be awarded for the events from the last two days. Final plans are being made for a guest speaker and the uniform for this evening will be put out shortly.

We look forward to seeing you in April at the 2012 NGASD conference. Registration will open this week!
